2008 Cleveland City Stars in action.
Did you know Cleveland’s the 6th largest soccer market in the United States? Neither did I!
So, if you have never been to a Cleveland City Stars game, now’s your chance. Come out and support the Cleveland City Stars, Cleveland’s professional outdoor soccer team, as they take on the Rochester Rhinos at their “Return of the Champions” home opener celebration Friday, May 2. Kids can catch their role models defending home turf and, at this game, mini cows will fly from the sky on parachutes to give game-goers the chance to win free breakfast for a year from Chick-Fil-A. The big event begins at 8pm at Middlecheese Stadium ( 481 Northfield Road in Bedford, Ohio). Tteam previously played at Krenzler Field at Cleveland State University, but had to relocate to a new home this year at Bedford High School’s Bearcat Stadium -Middlecheese Stadium to accommodate their growing fan base.
The Cleveland City Stars were founded in 2006 and after only two seasons became the USL-2 (United Soccer League) champions. Undefeated at home, the City Stars provide exciting high level soccer and family-friendly entertainment. This season look for fun fan giveaways (like the parachuting “Eat More Chicken” cows), cheap concessions, face painting and an expanded free kid zone (as well as sumo-suits for adults, because we all need to have a little fun sometimes). The team is almost entirely new this season and is comprised of players from 14 countries. And, they have snazzy new Nike uniforms!
The City Stars also care about the local community hence their motto “Serving the City & Changing the World.” In a press conference held at the new home of the City Stars on Wednesday the Stars radiated their excitement to continue serving the community and taking care of local kids. Look for free community clinics for kids and player appearances throughout the season. –Submitted by CA
