Sampling a Little Bit of Cleveland: Fabulous Food Show (11.16.08)

On Sunday, November 16th, my wife and I attended the Fabulous Food Show at the I-X Center. We went last year and were looking forward to the return visit. We are not gourmets, but the neighborhood restaurant samplings, intended to tempt you to visit, are always things we look forward to. We were not disappointed.

Everything from candy (one of my favorites) to caramel corn (another favorite) to meatloaf (okay, I like all food) were offered for a taste. And we took full advantage of these offerings.

Although we did not take part in any celebrity events, we could hear the crowds cheering these chefs as if they were rock stars. Large screens in different parts of the show allowed us to see a little of why those crowds were cheering. All of this created an almost sporting event atmosphere for the Show.

There was wine tasting at the Show with a “mini-class” to educate those of us who would not have discerning palates. I heard the person at the entrance to this event say it would hold 96. So, 96 people at a time got the chance to taste several different wines and be told why they were unique. The cost for this, I think, was $5.

We are so lucky to live near Cleveland and have the chance to do so many interesting things like this food show. I don’t think that most people in Northeast Ohio appreciate all of the opportunities we have here.
If you have the chance to attend this event next year, I would suggest you do so. It is an eye-opener to just some of the possibilities. And, even if, like me, you aren’t a foodie, you can still try somet free tastes. If nothing else you might find a restaurant you never knew was right in your neighborhood. –guest blogger, Fred Fryberger
